Mathmos is a small but well known and long established design and marketing company. We design our own range of lighting products and market them internationally through retail, etail and wholesale channels.
We have a number of opportunities for young design graduates to gain valuable work experience. The roles are most suited to those wanting to gain an all round understanding of a design related business. An extremely flexible approach is needed and only true all rounders need apply.
Period of Internship: Mathmos Internships are six months long. Since training is involved please do not apply unless you can commit to the full period. Please note also that references will not be forthcoming for those who do not stay the course.
Expenses- There is no salary for these roles but travel and lunch are paid.
Location: Mathmos showroom at 96 Kingsland Rd. Hoxton. You may be required to attend tradeshows in the UK and abroad.
Design Work; - reporting to Senior Product Designer and Head of Web and Graphics- Design and detailing of new and current designs using SolidWorks cad software.
- Undertaking development and testing of new products and producing detailed test reports.
- Preparation of development samples utilising workshop tools.
- Design research and contribution to concept.
- Web design/production/maintenence assistance (if this skill is available).
- Low level graphic work. Photoshop/Ilustrator.
- Tradeshow design and occasional build.
Marketing Work; - reporting to the Head of Sales- Retail sales in Kingsland Rd. shop including some Saturdays.
- Sales administration work; telephone answering, post, bank etc.
- Wholesale Sales and Sales admin. as required.
- Tradeshow attendance if required.
Skills and Qualifications- A degree in design.
- A solid understanding of the design process.
- A willingness and ability to work hard and contribute to the overall design process.
- Ability to work across a broad range of design related projects as well as contributing to the overall running of Mathmos as a business.
And (desirable skills)- A knowledge of Solid Works and ideally AutoCAD
- A knowledge of basic HTML and how a web page is constructed.
- Photoshop and illustrator.
- Knowledge of graphics for web.

- Personable manner
