What are the computer requirements for the screen saver?
Apple Mac : The screen saver will run on Mac OS X (10.2 or later). Performance will vary and depend on the computer's available memory, processor speed, graphics card and screen resolution. For best appearance your computer should be set to "Millions" of colours via "System Preferences", "Displays".
Windows : The screen saver will run on Windows 98, Me, NT, 2000, XP, and Vista. Performance will vary and depends on the computer's available memory, processor speed, graphics card and screen resolution. For best appearance your computer should be set to "Highest (32-Bit)" colour. To check colour settings in Windows 98/Me/NT/XP/2000, right mouse-click the desktop and select "Properties" to open the "Display Properties" window. Click the "Settings" tab. To check colour settings in Windows Vista, right mouse-click the desktop and select "Personalize" and then "Display Settings".
How do i install the screen saver?
Download the Mac or PC version of the screen saver to your desktop. Once it's finished downloading, double-click the file to unpack it and then double-click the installer to start the installation process.
How do i change the screen saver settings?
In OS X go to "System Preferences", select "Desktop & Screen Saver", select "Screen Saver" at the top of the pane, choose "MathmosScreensaver" from the list on the left if it is not already selected and click "Options".
In Windows 98/Me/NT/XP/2000, right mouse-click the desktop and select "Properties" to open the "Display Properties" window. Click the "Screen Saver" tab and select "MathmosScreensaver" from the list if it is not already selected. Click "Settings" to edit the screen saver's preferences.
In Windows Vista, right mouse-click the desktop and select "Personalize" and then "Screen Saver", then click "Settings".
What do all the settings do?
When "Randomiser" is turned on, the screen saver will select one of the six colours at random each time it starts up.
With "Shading" turned on, the wax blobs are drawn with realistic shading and lighting. When off, the wax is drawn as flat colour.
Toggling "Extra Lava" on and off turns the background layers of wax blobs on and off.
The screen saver runs slowly on my computer, what can I do?
Turning off the "Shading" and / or "Extra Lava" settings will improve performance. See "What do all the settings do?" for an explanation of what these change. If after turning off either or both of these settings you do not see any improvement, your computer's processor and / or graphics card may not of a high enough spec.
How do I remove the screen saver from my computer?
In OS X go to "System Preferences", select "Desktop & Screen Saver", select "Screen Saver" at the top of the pane, choose "MathmosScreensaver" from the list on the left and click "Options", and then click "Delete".
On Windows machines, open the Windows "Settings / Control Panel" from the "Start" Menu, and double-click "Add or Remove Programs", select "MathmosScreensaver" from the list and click "Change/Remove".
